50's pinup fun! Bakersfield Photographer

Who doesn't love vintage 50's housewives baking cookies, cupcakes, and drinking martini's?! Not sure what you did, but that's how my Saturday went! I got invited by my awesome fellow photographer, Jennifer Williams (check her blog this week to see her shots, plus some of me!) to come shoot and participate in a vintage 50's/pinup photoshoot! We had an awesome makeup artist and hair stylist who worked their magic and made all 4 of us look rockin' :) We did a Valentine's day theme with Jen's vintage kitchen and had a great time! Here are a few of my quick favorites: by Mary Ann Jones - freelance in the Anaheim/LA area

1st Freyday Free-for-all! Bakersfield Photographer

Welcome to the very 1st installment of my new blog post that will occur every Friday...hence the pun on my last name..Frey (for those of you who don't know, Frey is pronounced just like Fri or Fry or Frye!) I'm going to use these posts as a 'free for all' and hopefully share with you what's going on in my week behind the camera. (Scroll down for this weeks "Likes & Dislikes)

Speaking of getting to know me better, I've started using Formspring as another tool to have a bit of fun and answer client/photography/life questions. Click on this link: and ask away! See the screen capture below:
This week...

*Wolfgang Puck pizza!! I have fallen for the goat cheese, spinach & mushroom pizza with mozzarella, basil, and fresh tomato slices. yum!
Dinner My Way! It's a place in Bakersfield off Coffee that makes dinner for you...and you just bring it home and eat it! I have 6 meals waiting to be eaten next more cereal for dinner! (which also means having a happy husband...another like.)
* As seen on the previous post, I got a awarded by Central CA brides as a top 2010 photographer! Super excited and thankful to be recognized!
*Bakersfield Life Magazine - Check your Saturday newspaper, the new Feb. issue will be inside...with a cover by me!

*Starbucks wi-fi. I have an iTouch, so I have to steal internet and AT&T has made it difficult for me to figure out the "free" Starbucks wifi. Anyone know how to combat that??!
*Having surgery. I'll be in the OR on Monday to have a cyst removed from my wrist. boo.
*Not being at Lake Tahoe anymore! We had such an awesome week-long trip to relax, ski and enjoy the snow. If you want to see some photos, check out my gallery at
Jessica Frey Photography The first 7 are from Tahoe.

And since photography posts seem empty without photos, here's one for you of my baby, Miss Kayla!

Lake Tahoe - Bakersfield Photographer

Personal blog today! I first started my love of photography while traveling and was taken in by being able to capture landscapes. I've gotten the chance to get back to that this week...a week long vacation with my amazing husband. We're up at Lake Tahoe and with the huge snowstorms (Bako, LA...I know you're getting downpours and mudslides, so I'll take the snow!) took some time to explore the lake since the mtn. was closed for high winds. (boo.) Here are a few of my favorites from 2 days of exploring. Day 1 was before the storm and day 2 was after the first snowstorm. I hope you enjoy them...I personally love the contrast of these great piers with the warm wood against the cool snowy skies. Day 2...snow and wind!

For more of my landscape, fine art and travel photos, check out my website :

All are available for purchase, feel free to email me with any inquries. Thanks! Enjoy your day...Jessica

Open World & Smiles From America -Bakersfield Photographer

About a year ago, I had lunch with another local photographer, Greg Iger who was working on an idea to develop an exchange of photos and photography with a city in Russia...and he had heard through some grapevine that I was a photographer who spoke Russian! Surprise! I actually took Russian classes from 7th grade until my junior year in college, and even lived in Voronezh for a month as an exchange student in 1998.

Fast forward to December 2009 and the Kern County Administrative Building and you can see Greg's hard work on display! We were able to work with a museum in the city of Umersk, Russia to create 2 displays, one here and one there. We held a contest of local Kern County photographers and sent over our best work and in return Russian photographers sent their best work. But not just any photos, images that captured the smiling joy of their native people. We wanted to dispel the myth that Americans and Russians are cold and joyless, i.e. work to much, are career-driven sad people. SO, Smiles From America was born and I enjoyed working closely with Greg to translate and help understand make sure nothing was "lost in translation!" Click this link for an article in the Californian about the opening day: Article

Ok, without further ado, here are a few photos of our exhibit here in Bakersfield. Feel free to stop by the lobby anytime (it's right next to the Robobank Arena) and check out some great photographers! ADDED: The exhibit is moving to the Beale Library on Jan 15th which is 2 blocks east of it's location now off Truxton. It will be there until Feb 12th!! Go check it out!

You'll notice the placement, Russian images on the left along with similar American images on the right. The two ladies in the upper middle image could easily be sisters! My image of joy in the winter is on the right, taken in DC last Feb.
Here's the Beale Memorial Library located at 701 Truxton Ave, between the Marriott and Amtrack Station:

We're looking forward to continuing the partnership and taking the idea to the next level! So, stay tuned for next year and in the meantime let me know if you have any questions or if you go see the exhibit! Thanks!
